Evening Master-class
Hiring and Firing: a reality check
May 12th
Heaton Mount, Bradford University School of Management
5.00 - 5.30pm registration, followed by the speakers and then a networking buffet at 7.15pm
What’s the best way to proceed? How many times have you heard about that square peg in a round hole? This session provides a strategic view on getting people into the business and how to avoid a sticky end when a business and its employees might not be seeing eye to eye. The session suggests ways of thinking about hiring and firing that take it beyond a functional necessity and more as a tool for bringing the business together and taking it forward to greater heights.
Speaker: Dr Robert Wapshott, Bradford University School of Management
Before his academic career, Robert worked in the manufacturing and service industries. He was employed in HR, organisational change and operations management at a sports car manufacturer. While working for an outsourced recruitment service-provider, he worked with leading diagnostic and forensic science firms. Robert teaches in areas including human resource management and the management of change. He focuses in particular on exploring the nature of employment relationships in small firms and the role played by factors such as organisational objectives, client influence, and employee-management interactions.
