Sometimes challenging behaviour indicates a young person in a terrible situation – sometimes they are just acting up. Either way, responding to challenging behavior appropriately is complex. Across Leeds and the surrounding local authorities, people in the public and third sectors are using their passion and ingenuity to support young people. But no one person has all the answers and we can always do better.
Innovation Exchange, supported by the Cabinet Office, is working with Education Leeds to create a Festival of Ideas on 24th March 2009, drawing together commissioners, investors and supporters around the best innovations in this field. The event will particularly focus on young people as they approach 16 and then as they move into post-16 provision, with issues ranging from support services within schools and alternative education to positive activities beyond school and specialist work to support whole families.
So, if you have a fledgling proposal or an innovative project in this space, we want to hear from you, and the very best ideas will receive a Festival invitation. Let us know your solution to the issue of young people’s challenging behaviour.
To attend this event and benefit from this opportunity, simply respond to this ‘Call for Ideas’ on the Innovation Exchange <http://innovation-exchange.org/leeds-festival-of-ideas-information-for-third-sector-innovators/> website. Please note that the submission deadline is Wednesday, 4th March at 5.00pm.
Don’t give your idea away, but don’t keep it to yourself. Help it to fly with Innovation Exchange and Education Leeds.
The third and public sectors are teeming with great ideas, but too few of them change the world. Innovators, investors and commissioners often lack each others’ phone numbers and the capacity and incentive to collaborate. As a result, innovations may get a start, but struggle for the connections and resources to sustain or scale. Innovation Exchange’s Festivals of Ideas exist to tackle this problem. These high-quality one-day innovation events connect public sector commissioners with the most innovative leaders of third sector organisations large and small to identify opportunities for innovation and build alliances around ideas. Networking, workshops and open space sessions are combined to develop ideas with clearly-identified owners and next steps.
Innovation Exchange is a collaboration of the Innovation Unit, ACEVO and Headshift. It is primarily funded by the Cabinet Office, with sponsorship from NESTA and Department of Health.
